Drawing for Total Beginners

This class provides a solid foundation in drawing to beginning students. Learn to develop your power of observation and mark-making skills through a series of lessons that focus on gesture, line, shape, value and spatial relationships. With pencil and charcoal, students learn to use line, value, gesture, and perspective, developing the ability to “see” as artists. Using a variety of drawing materials and approaches, this class works from a variety of subjects, including still-life, landscape, and photographs.

Instructor Info

Nancy teaches adult painting classes and youth art classes at the Armory. She earned her BS in Studio Art from Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY, and her Masters in Art Education from Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI. Nancy paints still lifes in her studio and paints outdoors at many locations around Palm Beach County, including Coral Cove, Grassy Waters Preserve and DuBois Park. In the summer time, she enjoys painting in Maine, as well as rural Pennsylvania. Nancy has shown her work in the Northeast and in Florida at The Society of the Four Arts, the Boca Raton Museum of Art, the Cornell Museum and the Armory Art Center. Her paintings are in private collections around the United States.
