Ceramics: Wheel Throwing & Sculpture

Ceramics: Wheel Throwing & Sculpture

Ceramics

Explore clay as a medium of expression and functional forms. Students focus on basic skills and the creative aspects of working with clay in a variety of techniques from hand-building, wheel throwing, and surface treatment. 3D printing demos and samples will also be part of each week of ceramics.

Soft & Hard Sculpture

As an introduction to sculpture in both mediums, there will be instruction on a number of skill-based exercises in form, shape, color, light, and shadow. Alongside these exercises students will develop their own personal projects. Soft sculpture focuses on using textiles, fiber, paper, foam, and soft found objects to create free standing or hanging objects. Think Claes Oldenburg and Yayoi Kusama. Hard sculpture employs clay that dries hard when it is coiled, pinched, or slabbed and also rigid found objects. Think Michealangelo and Louise Nevelson.
