INTRODUCTION TO GOLD SOLDERING AND RECYCLING..."THE BIG MELT DOWN"

INTRODUCTION TO GOLD SOLDERING AND RECYCLING..."THE BIG MELT DOWN"
Working with gold can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be!! Gold is very rewarding to work with and easier than silver. Students will take a journey to the “next step” in their Metalsmithing adventure by recycling and soldering gold. Students are welcome to bring in their old gold rings/jewelry (chain not recommended) to be recycled and/or new silver & gold stock to use for their projects. The opportunity to purchase small “bits” of gold from the instructor will also be available. This is an introductory level class, (gold alloying and casting will not be covered). Demonstrations include how to test, measure, and weigh gold in addition to pouring ingots, using gold flux, soldering techniques, and polishing. Students can expect to create a small ring band or earrings. Please read the student information letter provided by registration for details. As a supporter of Radical Jewelry Makeover, recycling demonstrations will include any gold donations for the RJM project.
