This three-day workshop is a unique opportunity for students to learn the process of painting portraits with oils using a limited palette. By limiting the colors on the palette students will develop the ability to perceive tonal values and control temperature variations while maintaining color harmony. The course will center on the experience of painting from a live model; there will be a single, sustained pose throughout the workshop. Participants will learn how to achieve a better likeness and how to paint convincing flesh tones. Each day will include a demonstration, discussion, and individual instruction at the easel. Beginners will learn fundamental principles such as how to mix colors, while advanced students will discover how to take their work to the next level and achieve the finish that they desire.
